A Change in the Air

Fall is coming.

Fall in northern climates shouts and waves. Here it tiptoes in, whispering hello.

Since August began, there's a change in the light. It's softer, more yellow, less blazing white-hot than before. Temperatures have moderated into the high 80s from the high 90s, and we've had several afternoons of scattered showers instead of the huge, 20-minute thunder-and-lightning extravaganzas that characterize summer.

It's a welcome change.

  2. It is a miracle to me the way August brings this feeling to the north and the south. Summer is so full, so busy, so populated, and sometimes so hot that when August arrives we all whisper, 'whew.' I know there are a few weeks left in the actual summer, but August lets us know that the cooler and quieter days and evenings are on the way.

    1. Yes! It will be hot here until October, at least - but there's still a shift. And dropping from mid-90s to high-80s is a welcome sample of temps to come.
