I (heart) Baseball

I refuse to believe it's a coincidence that Pitchers & Catchers Report Day and Valentine's Day so often fall on the same date.

Bill Robinson, who won the World Series while playing for the Pirates and while coaching the Mets and the Marlins, said it best: "[Spring training is] an itch in your heart you just can't scratch."

  1. Bill Robinson was (he died a couple of years ago) one of the truly nice guys in baseball, one of my favorites. When he was a hitting coach, he used to say of players in pronounced hitting slumps: "Only two people love you when you're in a slump. Your mother and your dog." Great guy and glad J.G. mentioned him.
