Baby Season

It's baby season here in Florida! All the creatures -- especially the birds -- have their young with them these days, and it's wonderful to see.

These long-legged babies are Sandhill Cranes. It's easy to see why they're called "colts." The word "gangly" also comes to mind.

Waking up early in the morning to the sound of the adults calling their pterodactyl calls as they fly over is like hearing the voice of wild Florida . . . . You can imagine it if you listen to their calls here.

Is this heaven? Nope, just spring in Florida.

  1. I had no idea these baby Sandhill cranes were called "colts." Thanks.
