John Updike and Baseball

John Updike didn't quite make it to see another spring training, which starts in a few weeks when pitchers and catchers begin limbering up in Arizona and Florida. Updike died Tuesday. Though Updike wasn't known for writing about sports, his 1960 piece for The New Yorker on Ted Williams' final game is considered a classic. Take a look, and I think you'll agree:
